1). Managing agencies is a financial services consultancy based in down town that offers
accounting and financial planning services to small and medium sized organizations in
Kenya. The firm is planning to open a second office in kisumu to cater for an increasing
client base in the western region of the country. The new branch will be expected to start
with a staff force of about 50 people including a partner, a manager, financial planners, field
agents and office support personnel. The field agents will be expected to visit client firms,
collect accounting data and prepare accounting and tax reports. The financial planners will
advise client firms on financial and tax matters and will be expected to operate from the
office. Required:

a) Describe the system of the organization above

b) It has been decided that the envisaged information system will contain a decision support
element. Discuss the features that will characterize this element.

c) What are the benefits of using decision support systems? How do they enhance managerial
decision making?


d) Formulate strategic objectives of the information system to be developed.
e) Explain reasons that may lead to resistance to the introduction of management information
systems and how an organisation can overcome it. (30 marks)

2 a ). Any categorization of any system should be based on nature of the decision which they
support which in turn depend on the level of management. Discuss the three levels of
management.
