Question one (30 marks)
a. Evaluate the ability of the Kenyan constitution 2010 to provide a firm basis for revamped environmental management and legislation in Kenya. (10 marks)
b. Write expository notes on the following:
i. Salus populi suprema lex
ii. CITES
iii. Agenda 21
iv. NEMA
v. Aarhus convention

Question two (20 marks)
Explore the evolution of the concept of sustainable development, taking note to comment on its impact on environmental management and legislation, as well as criticism against it.
Question three (20 marks)
“Environmental law has developed a set of principles upon which its legislation is based”. Discuss these principles illustrating them with key principles of national and international laws.
Question four ( 20 marks)
The Environmental Management and Coordination Act 1999 imposes a mandatory requirement for EIA on projects. Assess the extent to which EIAs have addressed the threats to the environment in Kenya.
Question five (20 marks)
Discuss the role of the doctrine of locus standi and principles of English Common Law, illustrating how they may have influenced or may have hindered environmental protection in East A frica.
