QUESTION ONE (31 MARKS)
Read the given extract on Hays Method of Compensation and answer the given questions.
In developing the Hays Job evaluation method, the Hays Group made several observations about
organizations and jobs. It noticed that although there were many factors that could be considered in
evaluating a job, there were only three that were significant enough to consider for every job.
Required
a)
Name the three most significant factors that should be considered when evaluating a job
according to the Hays Group.
b)

The Hays Group further observed that different types of jobs would possess the three factors in
different patterns. Give a brief explanation of the patterns in which a Human Resource
Manager would require the factors.

In their final product, the Hays group came up with a four factor, eight elements classification
under the hays system of compensation. Name the four factors and give a brief explanation of
what each of them entails.
