a) Research that aids publicists (such as opinion polls conducted over the TV and radio) but not public is not research in true meaning of the word. Explain briefly how the term research is misused. (4 Marks) b) A researcher is interested in finding out how personality characteristics are expressed in the car that one drives. In particular do men express a greater need for control in organization than women by driving big cars? The researcher takes a sample of 200 females and 200 males to determine whether or not they drive big cars. (i) State both null and alternative hypothesis. (2 Marks) (ii) Compute the relationship of proportionality of men and women who drive big cars: take critical value of z = 1.96 at 5% level of confidence. (10 Marks) c) By giving relevant examples in business management environment explain the importance of research in social sciences. (6 Marks) d) Differentiate between correlational and causative research designs as applied in business research. (6 Marks) e) Sampling of respondents from a universe is very important. However, it poses some draw backs in selecting the correct samples. Explain. (4 Marks)

b) Explain under what conditions do researchers apply probability and non-probability sampling techniques in selecting a sample to be included in a research study.(8 Marks)

a) In the process of reviewing of related literature, the review has to be consistent with the problem under study. Critically examine way of formulating good review of related literature. (14 Marks) b) A good research study must be guided by a certain theory or a set of theories that are interrelated. Examine characteristics of a good theory that can guide a research study. (6 Marks)
