Mercelina is 30 years old and is 28 weeks pregnant. She is coming for the antenatal clinic for the
first time. Describe the components of focused antenatal care and their application in care and
management of Mercelina. (20 Marks)

Mr and Mrs Mark are 36 weeks pregnant, they have visited the health facility and on
interviewing them you discover that they do not have an individual birth plan;
(a) Describe the components of an individual birth plan that you would advise Mr and Mrs
Mark to include in their plan. Include the importance of each component in your
description. (10 Marks)
(b) Discuss the specific characteristics that you would advise Mr. and Mrs Mark on that will
assist them in choosing an appropriate health facility for delivery. (10 Marks)
QUESTION FOUR – (20 MARKS)
WHO recommends a minimum of four antenatal visits for pregnant women in resource scarce
countries like Kenya. Describe the four visits clearly indicating the interventions that are key at
each visit. (20 Marks)
