(c) The 20th terms of an arithmetic series is 60 and the 16th term is 20. Find the first term and the common difference. (5 Marks)
(d) In how many ways can a committee of 3 people be chosen from 5 members? (3 Marks)
(e) Wambugu intended to import a car that cost US dollars 4000 from Japan. On visiting the bank in Kenya he found the exchange rates as follows: Buying Selling
1 US Dollar 84.75 85.25
After converting his Kenya currency he decided against buying the car and converted his dollars back to Ksh. What percentage loss did he incur in the process? (5 Marks)
(f) A businessman borrowed Ksh150,000 at a rate of 20% p.a. compound interest. He paid Ksh45,000 at the end of each year for 2 years. (i) How much balance was carried over to the third year? (3 Marks)
(ii) If the interest rate went down to 18% p.a in the third year, how much less did he pay than would have paid for three years under the initial borrowing arrangements? (4 Marks)
QUESTION TWO – (10 MARKS)
(a) Mrs. Mbugua is a director of a company and earns a salary of Sh.136,520 per month. The company provides her with a free house. Her other taxable benefits are as follows; Car Ksh5,000 per month Water Ksh2,000 per month Electricity Ksh2,500 per month Housing 15% of basic pay.
She pays a nominal rent of Ksh10,475.
The tax rates are as follows

QUESTION THREE – (10 MARKS)
(a) Masheshe saves Ksh10,000 every year for 20 years in an account that earns compound interest of a rate of 10% p.a. How much money does he withdraw after fifteen years? (5 Marks)
(b) A man invest Ksh360,000 in two companies P and Q. P pays a dividend of 111 4
% while
Q pays a dividend of 101 2
% . If from his investment he obtained a return of 103 4
%, how much money had he invested in each Company? (5 Marks)
QUESTION FOUR – (10 MARKS)
(a) The capacity of a drum is stated as 2,00 millilitres to the nearest 10 millilitres. Find the (i) The limits within which the capacity lies. (2 Marks)
(ii) The percentage error. (4 Marks)
(b) Solve for by using the method of completing squares 42 3 5 = 0. (4 Marks)
QUESTION FIVE – (10 MARKS)
(a) A sales person receives a commission on sales as follows: 1.5% on the first Ksh20,000 2% on the next Ksh60,000 5% on any other extra sales. In the month of September he received total earnings of Ksh80,000. How much sales did he make? (8 Marks)
(b) A group of young men decided to raise Sh480,000 to start a business. Before the actual payment was made, four of the members pulled out and each of those remaining had to pay an additional Sh.20,000. Determine the original number of members. (5 Marks)
QUESTION SIX – (10 MARKS)
(a) Mutisya deposited Ksh1,000 at birth of his first daughter and save the same amount at every birthday of the daughter. How much money will the daughter withdraw when she will be 18 years old if the money earns an interest of 12% p.a? (5 Marks)
(b) A construction company requires to transport 144 tonnes of stones. The company pays Ksh24,000 for every 28Km. Odhiambo transported 96 tonnes to site P 41Km away. Find: (i) How much he paid. (3 Marks) (ii) The profit if he spends Ksh3,000 to transport every 8 tonnes to site P. (2 Marks)
