QUESTION ONE (30 MARKS)

Calculate the percentage of PCl5 that dissociates if 0.05 mole of PCl5 is placed in a closed (constant volume) at 250° and 2.00 Atm pressure. (7 Marks)

b) A 0.15 M solution of ammonia has a pH of 11.20. What is the Kb of Ammonia? (8 Marks) c) What is the pH of 0.3M acetic acid HC2H3O2 solution (Ka = 1.8 x 10-5)? (5 Marks)

a) Define the following terms; i. Heat formation ii. Enthalphy change iii. Endothermic reaction (6 Marks) b) A 5.0g of NaNO3 is dissolved in 50g of water. The initial temperature of water was 21° and the final temperature of the water was 15.7°. i. Find the heat of solution per mode of NaNO3. (7 Marks) c) Camphor (C10H16O) has an energy of combustion of 5903.6 Kj/mol. When a sample of camphor with mass 0.1204g is burned in a bomb calorimeter, the temperature increases by 2.28°. Calculate the heat capacity of the calorimeter. (7 Marks)

a) State three factors that affect electrolyte conduction. (3 Marks) b) i) Calculate the E.M.F of a cell 3+0.12+0.01 Given 3+/ = 0.75,2+/ = 0.45 (8 Marks)
ii) Predict if the reaction is spontaneous. (2 Marks) c) Given the standard equation Fe3+(aq) + e- Fe2+(aq) MnO4-(aq) + 8H+(aq) + 5e- Mn2+(aq) + 4H2O(l)
(i) Write a cell diagram. (4 Marks) (ii) Explain the reactions taking place at anode and cathode. (3 Marks)
