QUESTION ONE (30 MARKS)
a) Distinguish between primary and secondary air pollutants. (4 Marks)
b) Discuss how the following important tests may be carried out in a water sample.
i. Total organic carbon (3 Marks)

c) i. Explain the main role of ozone in the atmosphere. (2 Marks)
ii. Explain in detail how the ozone layer is depleted in the atmosphere. (4 Marks)
d) Particulates are some of the air pollutants produced in a cement manufacturing company.
Assume that you have been contracted by a cement company to advise them on how to
control particulates. Using diagrams explain in detail how your methods will work.

e) Explain how the ion-exchange process is used to purify drinking water. (4 Marks)
