c. Differentiate between ‘circuit switching’ and ‘packet switching’. (4 Marks) d. With the aid of a suitable diagram show the construction of a typical fiber optic cable. (4 Marks)
e. Repeaters and gateways are used for networking. Under what circumstances would each of these technologies be used? (4 Marks)
f. Describe asynchronous and synchronous modes of data transmission. (4 Marks) g. What is the function of a terminator in a networked environment? (2 Marks)

a. Using labelled diagrams, describe three LAN topologies stating the strength and weaknesses of each. (6 Marks) b. Modern networks including the internet use packet switching technique to transport message from sender to receiver. Briefly explain the concept of packet switching. (6 Marks) c. Both TCP and UDP offer transport services. Explain their differences stating where each is best suited. (6 Marks) d. Provide a brief description of the decapsulation process in networking. (2 Marks)
