PHYSICS K.C.S.E REVISION QUESTIONS.

WORK, POWER, ENERGY AND MACHINES.

Take g=10 N/kg
1 hp = 745W

1. Find the K.E of the following bodies;
a. A 3 tonne bus moving at 54 km/h
b. A 40g bullet moving at 700m/s
c. A 360 tonne jumbo jet moving at 684km/h

2. Find the total mechanical energy possessed by the following:
a. A 360 tonne Jumbo jet flying 8 km above ground at 540 km/h
b. A 300g stone moving at 40m/s 30m above ground
c. A helical spring of force constant 45 kN/m compressed by 4 cm

3. Identify the initial form and final form of energy when:
a. A boy carries a canon from first floor to fifth floor in a hotel.
b. A bullet is fired from a gun.
c. An athlete starts sprinting, then comes to rest after winning the 100m dash.
d. A lead bullet strikes a wall and then stops.
e. A person stretches a spring.
f. A telephone battery is charged.
g. A space shuttle enters the Earth''s atmosphere and then slows down due to drag.

4. State the energy transformation when a drum is struck.

5. The momentum of a body is tripled. By what factor is the K.E changed?

6. A trolley of mass 2 kg moving at 8 m/s struck another trolley of mass 3kg and they coalesced. Find the kinetic energy lost.

7. A 5000 kg truck moving at 72 km/h applied brakes and came to a stop after covering 50m. What was the breaking force?

8. A 50 g bullet moving at 400 m/s struck a used and came to rest after penetrating 30 cm. Determine the average resisting force presented by the tree.

9. A car when being supplied with a constant engine force accelerates to a certain given velocity and stops accelerating further, despite the fact that fuel is being supplied. Give a scientific explanation to this.

10. A sledge hammer of mass 8 kg accidentally fell from a 240 m tall storey building under construction and hit the ground. It made a 4 cm dent in the ground. Determine the ground resistance in newtons.
