1. A man weighing 700 N ran 200 m along the side of a hill which sloped such that for a horizontal change of 8 m the vertical rise was 3m. He did this in 3 minutes. What was his power?

2. A 1500 kg train moving at 72 km/h braked to a halt after covering 30m. Determine:
a. The braking force
b. The deceleration
c. The time it took when braking.

3. A 2 kg mass is thrown vertically upwards with a speed of 45 m/s. Determine:
a. The K.E three quarter up, clearly explaining your reasoning.
b. The speed three quarter way up.
c. The maximum height.
d. The time it spends in air.

4. What is meant by the term energy?

5. What is the significance of the law of conservation of energy?

6. A marble of mass 20g is placed onto a helical spring of force constant 80 N/m and it is compressed vertically downwards by 16 cm. When released, high will the ball go?

7. A 200 ton train moving up an incline has to exert an engine thrust of 300 kN to maintain a steady speed of 54 kph. What is the power developed?

8. A 50 g bullet struck a piece of wood m, of mass 10kg suspended by a string and got embedded in the block. The block swung in an arc and rose a vertical height h=20cm. Determine the impact velocity u.

9. A ball is released from a height of 20 m and every time it strikes the ground, it rebounds to three-quarters of the preceding height. Find the time elapsed between the 3rd and 4th bounce.

10. A water pump is able to raise 300 kg of water to a height of 6 m and throw it out at 12 m/s every minute. Determine the minimum power of the pump.
