QUESTION ONE (COMPULSORY)

(a) Define each of the following terms:

(i) Goals of education (2 marks)

(ii) Curriculum (2 marks)

(iii) Instructional objectives (2 marks)


(b) Briefly explain the three elements of a curriculum. (6 marks)



(c) State the four fundamental questions that, according to Tyler (1949), should guide the curriculum development process. (4 marks)

(d) (i) Distinguish between formal and non-formal dimensions of curriculum. (2 marks)

(ii) Give two examples of experiences falling within the informal dimension of curriculum. (2 marks)

(e) Give three reasons why curriculum is considered important in education. (3 marks)

(f) Marsh and Willis (2007) introduce three concepts in curriculum, namely: planned curriculum, enacted curriculum and experienced curriculum. Carefully explain these concepts. (6 marks)

(g) Explain why the term "extra-curricular" is not suitable for describing non- academic activities taking place outside the classroom. (l mark)
