Question One
Answer the following questions in relation to proteins.
a) What is the basis of classification of amino acids? Give one example for each class of amino acid. (1+4 Marks)
b)Name two modified amino acids found in proteins and state their biological functions. (2 Marks)
Distinguish between a simple and cojugated protein. Give suitable examples. (5 Marks)

a)Draw the structure of any amino acids as

b)What are the buffering groups present in a protein at physiological PH? Show how these groups help to contribute to buffering capacity. (1+2 Marks)
c)Justify the statement, "Primary structure guides the formation of secondary and tertiary structure,"give an example in support of your answer.
d)List four biologically important peptides; Give a brief account of the function of glutathione.
