Question One
Read the following excerpt and answer the questions that follow:
The government of Kenya has issued a directive of introducing Information and Communication for in-service teachers in secondary schools. However, it is placing much of the responsibility for implementing this directive on schools and universities. This follows years of criticism from employers that pupils leave school without learning about the applications of ICT in their subjects. Therefore the government is launching a consultation on how to make ICT training for in-service teachers a reality. While it will be compulsory for schools to implement this directive, the government will no longer write the bulk of the curriculum. It has stated explicitly that schools must devise their own courses, with the help of universities and businesses.
a) As a teacher in a Kenyan secondary school discuss this directive citing specific
implementation issues. (20 marks)
b) What recommendations would you give the government in order for this directive to
be implemented smoothly. (10marks)
