TOPIC: ALGEBRA

1. A group of q girls went to a picnic. They spent Sh. p each on food and a total of Sh. r on transport. Write an equation representing the cost per girl.

2. Akinyi has y bananas. This is 3 times as many bananas as Waithera has. They have 36 bananas altogether. Write an equation to represent this information.

3. In a cupboard there are pencils, rulers and books. The number of pencils is 15 more than that of rulers. The number of books is three times that of rulers. If the number of pencils is p, write an expression to represent the total number of items in the cupboard.

4. Musa, Tom and Sam scored goals for their team during a football match. Musa scored n goals while Sam scored twice as many goals as Musa. Tom scored two goals less than Sam. Write an expression representing their total scores.

5. Fundi, Halima and Gitonga are employed in a farm. Fundi's monthly salary is Sh. 50 more than that of Gitonga. Halima's monthly salary is Sh. 90 more than half of the total amount earned by Fundi and Gitonga. If Fundi's salary is Sh. n, write an expression representing the total income of the three employees.

6. Galgalo, Ali, Bil and Sawe shared sweets as follows: Galgalo got 6x sweets, which was three times as many as Ali's. Sawe got 4 more sweets than Ali. Bil got half as many sweets as Sawe. Write an expression showing the number of sweets that Bil got.

7. Jamul bought x mangoes and Musa bought y mangoes. Amina bought three more mangoes than Jamul. Write an expression to show the total mangoes bought by the three.

8. Agola bought n oranges and Mwangi bought n+1 oranges. Mueni bought twice as many oranges as both Agola and Mwangi. Write an expression showing the total number of oranges they bought.

19. Three pupils Furaha, Gitahi, and Komen contributed a total of Sh. 400 for a party. Furaha contributed Sh. 30 more than Gitahi while Komen contributed three times as much as Furaha. If Komen contributed Sh. x, which one of the following equations below can be used to find Komen's contribution?
A. 5x - 90 = 1200
B. 5x - 90 = 400
C. 5x + 90 = 1200
D. 7x - 30 = 400
