1. There are sixty benches in a hall. Each bench accomodates either 6 adults or 10 children. One day, 2/3 of the benches were occupied by children and the rest by adults. How many people altogether were seated in the hall that day?
2. During a birthday party, 3/5 of the children present were girls. If there were 270 boys, how many girls were present?
3. During a celebration there were 90 men present. There were 50 more women than men and twice as many children as adults. What was the total attendance?
4. Omollo had 280 hectares of land. He used 5/7 of it to plant maize seeds. The seeds in 1/5 of the area he planted did not germinate. For how many hectares did the seeds germinate?
5. In a school party, a third of the pupils took orange juice. Two fifth of the remainder took lemon juice. How many pupils attended the party if the number of those who took passion fruit juice was 72?
6. After 25% of water leaked from a tank, 375 litres still remained. How many litres of water leaked?
7. The fractions 4/9, 3/7, 2/5 and 1/2 are arranged from the smallest to the largest. Write the correct order.
8. Maina spent half of his salary on rent and a third of the remainder on food. He saved the rest. If he saved Sh. 600, how much had he earned?
9. In a certain constituency, three candidates stood for an election. The first candidate got five hundred and sixty votes more than the second who got eighteen thousand six hundred votes. The third candidate got one fifth of what the two candidates got. If one hundred and thirty votes were spoilt, how many votes were cast together?
10. In a certain school 3/5 of the pupils are girls. One day when 3/20 of the girls were absent, 153 girls were present. How many boys are there in the school?
