Explain the rationale of proper feeding for expectant mothers and young children. (4 marks)
2.
Define the concept of “Maternal Health Care” and state the various factors that prevent women in developing countries from getting the healthy care they need. (6 marks)
3.
State the various micronutrients required by a lactating mother and highlight how their deficiencies can be prevented. (6 marks)
4.
Provide the specific Millennium Development Goals relating to maternal and Child Health and explain how the will be achieved. (4 marks)
5.
Briefly discuss food allergies highlighting the types (classification), symptoms, prevalence and treatment. (6 marks)
6.
Explain using Kenyan examples the benefits of school feeding programmes. (4 marks)

Define the term Nutrition and using the diagram of a food Pyramid describe the constituents of a Healthy Diet. (20 marks)

“Pregnancy is a critical period during which mothers and infants form an inseparable biological social unit”. Discuss this statement in light of proper Nutrition during pregnancy. (20 marks)
9.
Discuss the importance of breastfeeding to both the mother and the infant and briefly explain the foods to be avoided / limited during this period. (20 marks)
10.
Highlight the determinants of maternal mortality and provide the practicals that could lead to the reduction of the same. (20 marks).
11.
Define the term “Food Security” and highlight the causes of “Food insecurity”
and how the situation can be improved. (20 marks)
