1 (a). Explain how universities have contributed to the development of drama in East Africa over
the years.(15 marks)
b). Analyse the aspects of drama which make it a powerful tool of social change. (15marks)
2. Discuss the significance of the title The Burdens in John Ruganda’s play. (20 marks)
3. Give reasons as to why we would regard the play Kinjeketile an historical play or reflecting
history. (20 marks)
4. EITHER
a). Discuss the centrality of the character Aminata in furthering the theme of gender equality in
Francis Imbuga’s Aminata. OR
b). Discuss the concerns highlighted by Ruganda in the Play The Floods. (20marks)
5. “The objective of the writer in Betrayal in the city is to pierce at what is ailing post –
independent African countries.” Discuss. (20 marks)
6. Using any two plays studied evaluate at least four prominent dramatic techniques employed by
East African playwrights. (20marks)
