1. Mwambo bought goods worth Sh. 17.30. He gave the shopkeeper a 50 shillings note but the shopkeeper did not have the exact change. How much more money should Mwambo give the shopkeeper so that he gets two-twenty shillings notes?

2. The weight of tea leaves is as follows:

500g - Sh. 15.85
250g - Sh. 8.95
100g - Sh. 3.30
50g - Sh. 1.65

Njinu was sent to buy 500g of tea leaves. He bought one packet of 250g, 2 packets of 100g and one packet of 50g. How much less would he have paid if he had bought one packet of 500g?

3. A mother sold 5 chickens @ Sh. 35. She used the money to buy 4 plates @ sh. 13 and 4 mugs @ Sh. 15. How much money was she left with?

4. Chepkwony had a sh. 100 note. He bought two 200g packet of tea, two 1/2 litre packets of milk, two loaves of bread and one kilogram of sugar. The prices of these items were as follows:

One kilogram of sugar sh. 950
One loaf of bread sh. 4.60
One 1/2 litre packet of milk sh. 3.45
One 250g packet of tea leaves sh. 9.15

How much change did he get?

5. The price list of a kiosk was as shown below:

Maize flour sh. 28
Sugar sh. 55
Salt sh. 20
Fat sh. 98

Maina bought 2kg of maize flour, 3kg of sugar, 1/2 kg of salt and 1 kg of fat. He paid for the items using a 500 shillings note. How much balance did he receive?

One pencil sh. 2.00
One ball-point pen sh. 3.50
One mathematical set sh. 55.00

Muthoni bought five exercise books, one pencil, two ball-point pens and one mathematical set. What balance did he get from the book keeper after giving him a one hundred shillings note?

7. The list below shows prices of some items in a kiosk:

Salt - sh. 8 per packet
Tea leaves - sh. 51 per packet
Fat - sh. 44 per 500g
Bread - sh. 16 per loaf
Matches - sh. 3 per box

Wambui bought 3kg of sugar, 2 packets of salt, one loaf of bread, 1kg of cooking fat, 1 packet of tea leaves and 5 boxes of matches. If she paid for these items using a 500 shillings note, how much did she receive as balance?

8. Jebii bought the following items from the market:

3 loaves of bread @ sh. 16
1 3/4 kg of sugar @ sh. 40 per kg
2 packets of unga @ sh. 38
2 packets of tea leaves @ sh. 51
1/2 kg of meat @ sh. 80 per kg

How much did she pay for all these items?

Milk (1 bottle per day) @ sh. 13
Bus fare for 22 days @ sh. 20 per day.

What was her savings for the month if her salary was sh. 3,000?

10. The prices of items in a shop were as follows:

One kilogram of sugar sh. 9.80
One loaf of bread sh. 5.00
One packet of coffee sh. 32.00

Kawira bought 3 pieces of soap, 2 kilograms of sugar, 4 loaves of bread and one packet of coffee. How much change did she get if she gave a two hundred shillings note to the shopkeeper?
