2. Briefly discuss the ‘push’ and ‘pull’ factors in the Kenyan migration dynamics explaining the economic implications of any four such factors in each category. (20 Marks)



3. Population growth has implications for specific areas of development planning. Discuss any five such areas using Third World examples. (20 Marks)



4. T. R. Malthus and Ester Boserup gave contrasting accounts of the relationship between population and environment. Discuss both accounts briefly using the “Machakos thesis” to illustrate the difference. (20 Marks)


5. There are three basic patterns of population growth that can be captured using population structure pyramids. Draw and discuss pyramids that represent rapid, slow and negative growth with reference to specific countries. (20 Marks)
