2. Answer ALL questions in Section A and any Two (2) questions in Section B

4. You may use illustrations in your answers as you deem necessary
SECTION A: (30 marks)
1. State six positive aspects of insects in the human society (3 marks).
2. What are the three primary functions of an insects head? (3 marks).
3. Describe the layers of the cuticle on an insect’s body wall. (3 marks).
4. Describe the three head orientations or conditions in insects. (3 marks).
5. Name three types of insect sense organs and give one example of the organ in each case.(3 marks).
6. Describe the three stages of embryonic development in insects. (3 marks).
7. Provide three differences in the functioning of the Nervous and Endocrine Systems in insects. (3 marks).
8. Differentiate between simple and complete Metamorphosis. (3 marks).
9. Give names of at least three orders of insects whose immature stages are referred to as larvae and pupae. (3 marks).
10. Give atleast three characteristics of the following orders grouped together: Thysanoptera, Homoptera, Hemiptera, Psocoptera, Phthraptera and Zoraptera. (3marks).
SECTION B: ( 40 Marks)
11. Describe the form and function of the three tagmata of insects and at least two appendages located on each tagma. (20 marks).
12. Compare the male and female reproductive systems of insects and their respective processes of gamete production. (20 marks)
13. Outline the 3 major groupings of insects, pointing out the major differences and giving at least two example orders of each grouping. (20 marks).
14. Describe the morphological features of an insect order (choose one) that may guide you into its identification (assuming you were using a Dichotomous Key to Insect Orders) or give a full description of your chosen insect order. (20 marks).
