1. In a competition 5 points were awarded for each game won and 3 points deducted for each game lost. A pupil attempted 20 games and won 15 of them. How many points did the pupil get?

2. A company packs 50 pens in a packet. Sixteen such packets fill one carton. The company donated one full carton to a school with 240 pupils and 12 teachers. If each pupil received 2 pens, and each teacher received 9 pens, how many pens were left over?

3. At a cereal depot, 31678 bags of maize were sold in the first week. In the second week the number of bags sold decreased by 2156. In the third week 667 more bags were sold than in the first week. How many bags were sold altogether in the three weeks?

4. A certain meeting was attended by 1835 people. The number of men was twice that of children and 15 less than that of women. How many more women attended the meeting?

5. A factory produced 18282 packets of cooking fat. Of these 7680 were 100 g packets, 2472 were 250 g packets, 1317 were 500 g packets, 1 kg packets were 1000fewer than the 250 g packets. If the rest were 2 kg packets, how many 2 kg packets were there?

6. A fundraising function was attended by men, women and children. There were 500 men and twice as many as women. A total of sh. 37,500 was raised. If each man contributed sh. 20 and each woman sh. 15, what was the amount contributed by the children?

7. In 1990, Murimi harvested 42 bags of maize from his farm. In 1991, he harvested 8 bags less than 1990. If in 1990 each bags was sold at sh. 360 and in 1991 each bag was sold at sh. 480, how many more money did he get in 1991 than in 1990?

8. A newspaper vendor sold three types of papers. Each day from Monday to Friday he sold 30 copies of paper A, 20 copies of paper B and 10 copies of paper C. For the remaining two days he sold a total of 40 copies of paper A, 20 copies of paper B and 15 copies of paper C. How many copies newspaper did he sell in one week?

9. A matatu covers a distance of 420 km in one day. It consumes one litre of petrol for every 5 km. Petrol costs sh. 15 per litre. How much money is spent on petrol in 7 days?

10. Pupils and teachers of a single streamed primary school contributed some money. Each pupil from standard 1 to 3 contributed sh. 2 while those from standard 4 to 8 contributed sh. 3 each. Each teacher contributed sh. 10 but the headteacher contributed sh. 15. The number of pupils per class was 46. The number of teachers including the head teacher was 17. How much money did the school collect?
