SECTION A (5 marks each)

Describe the different colonial morphologies in bacteria.
2.
Giving specific examples, describe the process of cell elongation in coccal and rod shaped bacteria.
3.
State the growth requirements and characteristics of Staphylococcus aureus.
4.
State the precautions to be observed when isolating Clostridia from specimens.
5.
Describe systematic and industrial bacteriology.
6.
Outline the importance of accurate identification to diagnostic bacteriology.
7.
Account for the lag phase of bacterial growth in a batch culture.
8.
Explain how to estimate the bacterial population in a soil sample.
