CIRCUIT THEORY
REVIEW QUESTIONS.

1. A variable tuning capacitor in a radio receiver has a maximum capacitance of 365 pF and a minimum capacitance of 30 pF.

a. What inductance is required for the lowest frequency to which the circuit can tune to be 540 kHz?
b. What is the highest frequency to which the circuit can be tuned?

2. A coil with a Q of 90 and a capacitor form a parallel resonant circuit tuned to 4.5 MHz. The total impedance of the circuit at resonance is 60,000 ohms. Find
a. The inductance of the coil.
b. The capacitance of the capacitor.

3. The coil and capacitor of a tuned circuit have an L/C ratio of 100,000. The Q of the tuned circuit is 80 and its bandwidth is 5.8 kHz.
a. Calculate the upper and the lower frequency limits of the bandpass.
b. Calculate the inductance and resistance of the coil.

4. A tuned circuit in a radio transmitter is composed of a tank coil with an inductance of 0.08 mH tuned by an 800 pF capacitor. The RF voltage across this tank circuit is 1200 V rms. The overall Q of the circuit is 30.
a. Calculate the tank current.
b. At what rate must RF energy be supplied to this circuit to maintain this amplitude?

5. A 4-H filter choke with a resistance of 20 ohms is connected in series with a pulsating dc source and a resistive load. What value of capacitance must be connected across the choke to provide the most effective filtering of a 120 Hz ripple component in the output of the pulsating source?

6. An audio filter for reducing the 10-kHz heterodyne between broadcast stations contains a parallel-resonant circuit whose capacitance branch is 0.00002 mF. The inductance branch has a resistance of 100 ohms. What inductance should this branch possess?

7. Design a filter which can be used to pass the output of a 200 kHz powerline carries transmitter whose bandwidth is 6 kHz but reject any third harmonic content in the transmitter output. This filter will contain an 0.5-mH coil.
