SAS 101: introduction to Reading and Writing Skills.

Instructions to candidates: Read the instructions to this paper carefully and follow them closely. Speed and accuracy are very important in this test. Think carefully before writing and write neatly. You are not allowed to erase anything written on the paper. DO NOT write down anything until after you have read all the questions/items. The exam carries 30 (thirty) marks awarded at commencement of the exam i.e each question/item/task performed as instructed is minus 3 (three) marks except the last item which carries 0 (zero) marks.

1. Turn over the paper and write you name in capital letter, alternating each letter with a different colour. Indicate how many colours and letters you have.

2. Draw a circle round each of the letters of your name.

3. Draw a square under each letter of you name written on the back of this paper.

4. Still at the back using a different colour draw a triangle below the square.

5. Draw a straight line linking the circle above to the square below it.

6. Draw a straight kind linking the square to the triangle below it.

7. Write the name of your Degree program in the top right hand corner of the page 1.

8. Write a list of the 4 core courses in your degree program in the top left hand corner of page 1.

9. How many people did you greet this morning on your way to and in class before the lesson? Write the number and at least 5 (five) names in the bottom right hand corner of the front page.

10. Draw one straight line from the top right hand corner to the bottom left hand corner. Draw one line from the top left hand corner to the bottom right hand corner. Draw a square whose center is the point of intersection of the two lines and whose sides are at least 1 (one) inch each.

11. After reading all the items DO NOT write anything on this paper. Write down the instructions to the exam in your notebook and return the question paper to the examiner.
