Question
A large college with approximately 2,000 students and 5 diploma courses requires a database system to manage it's students' information. The college has sought your assistance in developing this system.

New students are admitted every year and on admission they provide,through the application form, personal and academic data.This data should be captured in the database. Upon admission, students register in one of the diploma courses. Attendance registers are then produced.

Students are required to pay the fees required by the college. All payments are recorded in the database and receipts are issued. The accounts department monitors fee payments and regular reminders are sent to the students who owe the college.

The college monitors the performance of each student through regular assignments and exam. At the end of every month, reports are printed for dispatch to sponsors or guardians.After four years, those students who will have satisfied the examination requirements graduate and are awarded their diplomas.

Required
Design and develop a database for the above application. This should include the following:
a) Logical data model (Entity relationship diagram)
b) Forms of data entry
c) Reports including the following:
i) Class registers
ii) Summary of fees payments
iii) Monthly academic reports
iv) Fee reminders to those who owe the college
v) Graduation list
vi) List of subjects /units offered in each diploma
d) Appropriate validations and controls to ensure integrity of data in the database. (100 marks)
