INSTRUCTIONS:
Answer question ONE and any other TWO questions.

Question 1 (Compulsory)
A scale to measure anger was administered to a group of ten inmates at the Kamiti
Maximum in October 2008. The inmates then underwent anger management counseling.
In July 2009 after counseling, the same scale was administered again to the ten inmates.
The levels of anger according to the scale before and after the counseling are reported in
the Table below:-

a) The table below shows the number of students within certain age groups in a
given class.

Required:
Draw a bar diagram and frequency polygon from the table given below on one graph to
represent this information.
b) After analyzing his inspection report from the Kenya National Bureau of
Statistics, the quality control manager at Unga Group realizes that on the average,
12% of their 2kg packets of maize flour are rejected because they are
underweight. What is the probability that a box with 10 2-kg packets of maize
floor will contain;
i) no more than 2 rejects?
ii) At least 2 rejects?
c) The average score of boys in an examination of a school is 71 and that of the girls
is 73. The average score of the school in the examination is 71.8. Find the ratio
of the number of boys to the number of girls.

Questions 3
After the 1998 bomb blast at the American Embassy in Nairobi, victims were placed into
three groups for counseling. Each group had five victims. The first group received 5
hours of counseling, the second group receive 10 hours of counseling and the third group
received 15 hours of counseling. At the end of the counseling, each victim was
evaluated for the level of trauma using the Test for Trauma Index (TTI). The three
groups of victims received the following scores of TTI at the end of treatment. Note that
a lower TTI indicates reduced trauma.
