1. Referring to texts studies in this course, discuss the different ways in which African novelists have documented socio-political conditions of the continent.

2. “In The Poor Christ of Bamba, Mongo Beti debunks the myth of the African as a knowable subject.” Critically discuss this statement with illustrative examples from the text.

3. a) How does Ayi Kwei Armah reconcile stylistic choices with thematic concerns in The Beautiful Ones Are Not Yet Born.

b) To what extent can the concerns you identify in 9a) above be said to represent the African reality?

4. “The strength of Ngugi wa Thiongo’s A Grain of Wheat lies in the author’s ability to manipulate stylistic aspects to capture a transcient yet critical moment in Kenya’s history.“ Do you agree? Illustrate your answer.

5. Discuss some of the overriding concerns in Neeva Kapur-Droomson’s From Jhelum to Tana. How are these concerns brought out in the novel?

6. With reference to Chimamanda Ngozi’s Purple Hibiscus, discuss the concerns with identities in the post-colonial African novel.

7. Discuss the relevance of Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart to the contemporary African situation.
