One hundred candidates in a Table Tennis examination obtained
marks as shown below:-

Illustrate this information on a frequency polygon. Calculate the median mark,
and the semi-interquartile range. If students with at least 4 marks passed, what
percentage failed?(12marks)

Six elderly women who were hypertensive volunteered to take part in a study
which was designed to determine whether Yoga exercise is effective in
alleviating hypertension. The researcher rated their hypertensiveness on a four-
point scale immediately before receiving treatment (pre-test), immediately after
treatment has ended (post-test) and three months later (follow-up).
The results for the three occasions are shown below:

Calculate the Friedman test at K01 two-tailed level to determine whether
pre-test, post-test and follow-up hypertension differ for the group. (10 marks)

A physical educator believed that the ability to serve well was related to the success or
failure for beginning tennis students. To test this belief the physical educator conducted
a ladder tournament with beginning players to determine the students abilities to win
games against their peers. When the tournament was over, the lecturer ranked the
students according to the order they finished in the tournament. Next, the lecturer
administered a serving test that ranked the students from best to worst on serving skills.
The results of the two sets of rank order scores are shown below.

Calculate Spearman’s rho and explain whether tennis serving ability and the ability to
win tournament games are related.(24marks)

One characteristic often noted about those in the physical education profession is their
sense of humour. Makato (1992) hypothesized that having a good sense of humour may
be related to good physical health. Suppose that you test this hypothesis by measuring
16 subjects on their sense of humour and their physical health problems. You obtain the
following scores on these two measures.
