QUESTION ONE
A vessel of 0.4 cubic metres contains a mixture of air and steam which is 0.78 dry. If the pressure is 8 bar and temperature is 118.6 degrees celcius, calculate the present;
i. Mass of water. (3mks)
ii. Mass of dry saturated vapour. (1mks)
iii. Mass of air. (2mks)
QUESTION TWO
A vessel of 1.3 metres cubic capacity contains oxygen at 6 car and 40 degrees celcius. The vessel is connected to another vessel of 2.8 metres cubic capacity containing carbon monoxide at 1.2 bar and 15 degrees celcius. A connecting valve is opened and gases mix adiabatically. Calculate;
i. Final temperature (5mks)
ii. Pressure of mixture (1.5mks)
iii. Change in entropy of the system. (5mks)
Take C(v): Oxygen=21.07 kJ/kmolK and CO=20.86 kJ/kmolK.
