b. Give the concept of shell, sub shell and orbital in an atom. Name the sub shells and corresponding orbitals for principal quantum number 4. (10mks)

a. A particular type of brass contains elements Cu, Sn, Pb and Zn. A sample weighing 1.713 g is treated in such a way as to convert Sn to 0.245 g tin oxide, the Pb to 0.115 lead sulphate and the Zn to 0.246 Zinc dichromate. What is the percent, by mass of each element in the brass? (10mks)
b. What are Lewis symbol, Lewis structures and Resonance Hybrid structures? Give two examples of each. (10mks)

a. Give the Bronsted-Lowry theory of acids and bases. Use a reaction example to explain the theory. (4mks)
b. Explain the term conjugate acid base pairs. Give four examples. (6mks)
c. What is a buffer system? Show how such a system can be used to maintain a value pH in the acidic and basic ranges of pH. (10mks)
