(12marks)
Question Two (20marks)
a) Differentiate between project planning and project management. (2marks)
b) The primary challenge of project management is to achieve all the goals and objectives while adhering to the classic project constraints(“traditional triple constraints”) Highlight these constraints. (3marks)
c) Discuss briefly giving examples the main five (5) processes within the project cycle. (15marks)

Question Three (20marks)
a) Define the following terms that are commonly used in financial and economic appraisal of the project.
i) Payback period
ii) Average rate of return
iii) Net present value (NPV)
iv) Profitability index. (8marks)
b) The BIZ training company limited is considering buying a new online system to enable them to deliver the training they do for their corporate clients. Each system has a range of functionality but they differ quite a bit in what they offer. Both systems would do the job that BIZ training are looking for . The required rate of return for both systems is 12%. The expected annual after tax cash inflows from each system are as follows.

b) Explain what is project crashing and outline the rules that are followed in doing the crashing. (6marks)
Question Five (20marks)
A factory makes the two types of components for the motor car industry. Two machines are required for the manufacturer of each component.
Component X requires 11/2 hour on machine 1 and 1 hour on machine 2.
Component Y requires 2 hours on machine 1 and 3 hours on machine 2. In a given period these are 2,400 hours available on both machines. In addition, the material required for component X is in short supply and only sufficient material for 1,200 units in the period is available.
5
If the profit contribution from component X is ksh.20 and component Y is ksh.30 determine the optimum production schedule and the contribution for the period using the simplex method. (20marks)
