QUESTION ONE
a.
i. What is meant by Fermi energy level? Where does it lie in the band gap for the P and N regions of solar cell?

ii. Explain the function of depletion layer in a solar cell operation.

iii. What is the energy associated with photon of yellow light (wavelength 600 nm)

b.
i. Find the angle subtended by a beam radiation with a normal to the flat plate collector at 9 am for the day on 30th October, 2003. The collector is placed at Mumbai (19 degrees 07 minutes, 72 degrees 51 minutes East), inclined at an angle 36 degrees wit the horizontal and is facing south.

ii. Compute the local apparent time corresponding to 14:30 IST on July 1 at New Delhi (28 degrees 35 minutes North, 77 degress, 12 minutes East) with correction of time minus 4 minutes, if IST is based on 82 degrees, 30 minutes East. (15mks)
