INSTRUCTIONS: The examination has five (5) questions. Attempt any three
questions

Question One
a) Differentiate between chromosomal and genetic abnormalities illustrating your
answer with appropriate examples in each case. [5marks]

b) “It is the pride of every family to have children and even grandchildren who are
free from genetic problems”. Discuss the above statement in the light of both
traditional and modern methods used to ensure genetically health offspring.
[18marks]

Question Two
You have been invited to give a talk on the current issues surrounding the decision to
have children and even how to manage them. Focus your discussion along the following
issues and in each case revisit the traditional aspects and show the current status or
challenges.
i) Attitudes towards children.
ii) Abortion rights
iii) New approaches to birthing
iv) Breast feeding [23marks]

Question Three
Members of your church have learned that you are currently pursuing a doctor of philosophy degree and one of your areas of specialization is developmental psychology, they would like to share some information with you about how best to raise children. In the spirit of giving back to society you have organized your presentation to cover the following critical areas.
i) Children discipline
ii) Children and media
iii) Paternal role in child rearing
v) Facilitating social development.
Outline what you would say regarding each area in a way that shows where we are coming from and where we are at in each issue.

Question Four
“Adolescence is a short period of life covering only one decade of life but with significant consequences for all the other decades of life thereafter” Discuss this statement with the following themes in mind;

Question five
Adult life is one long stretch of life characterized by various themes. Outline these themes by expanding on the following issues;
i) Shared life events
ii) Primary and secondary aging
iii) Stress and stress management
