SECTION ONE – (30 MARKS)
1. Distinguish between aetiology and phenomenology of behavior disorders? [4 marks]

2. What is behavior disorder? [2 marks]

3. What is motivation and what role does it play in molding a child’s behavior?
[4 marks]

4. Briefly explain the significance of the study children with behavior disorders and social maladjustment. [4 marks]

5. Explain the difference between internalized and externalized behavior disorders.
[4 marks]

6. Explain the difference between the ANOMIE and the LABELLING theories in justifying behavior disorders. [4 marks]

7. The environment model suggests that behavior disorders occur as a result of failure of the individual to adapt to the environment. Give two limitations of this model in explaining behavior disorders. [2 marks]

8. Suggest the diversion of Durkheim’s and Merton’s Anomie theory. [2 marks]

9. Enumerate four factors suggested by Merton that drive a person to adapt to a reality. [4 marks]

SECTION TWO – (40 MARKS)
10. Behavioural problem among children is an issue of discussion in Kenyan schools. The problem of terminology is also a debate.
a) Distinguish between behavior management and behavior modification. [4 marks]

b) Explain three principles of behavior management. [6 marks]

c) Give five techniques of behavior management in a classroom set-up and show
how they can be utilized to control behavior disorders in children. [10 marks]

11. Kariuki, a class three pupil, is always restless in class and cannot sit still for more than five minutes. He likes moving around, disturbing others and he shows low concentration.
a) Describe Kariuki’s behavior disorder. [5 marks]

b) Using a theory of your choice, explain the causes of this behavior disorder.
[5 marks]

c) Using the same theory, indicate possible interventions which Kariuki’s teachers and parents could apply to control the behavior disorder. [10 marks]

12. Describe the theory of Differential Association and apply its principles to explain behavior disorders among children. [20 marks]

13. Violence has become a common occurrence among children in schools.
a) Explain this problem in the context of internalized and externalized behavior disorders.[4 marks]

b) Suggest the possible causes of this behavior disorder. [6 marks]

c) In your role as a special education teacher with knowledge on behavior disorders,
develop a system for your school to curb violence, showing preventive and curative measures that can be applied against this behavior. [10 marks]
