ECT 202: INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS IN EDUCATION

INSTRUCTIONS:
Answer question ONE and any other TWO

Q1. a) i) Name the domains of knowledge.
ii) State what each of these domains stand for in terms of content and
expected behaviours in teaching/learning process.

b) According to Benjamin Bloom “knowledge may be classified into
categories or levels of thinking’.
i) List and explain all the categories a per Bloom’s classification.
ii) Compose at least two instructional objectives relating to each level
(i.e. category).
iii) Classify the levels in accordance with their tasks clearly indicating which ones you think are list demanding, moderately demanding and most demanding.
iv) Give a full explanation of your own classifications.

c) Formulate at least two instructional objectives each for the three non-cognitive
domains to illustrate your understanding the broad tasks of those
domains.

d) With use of appropriate examples, discuss the procedure of constructing
instructional objectives clearly showing what you would consider essential parts
on the one hand and optional parts on the other. [30marks]

Q2.a)Draw a simple model of the systems approach. Explain what is taking place in
each of its parts.

b)Choosing one of the improved models (Ayot &Patel, Glasser or Gerlach’s)
explain all the elements found in the model, the way those elements are
arranged and how they work. [20marks]

Q3.a)Draw a diagram illustrating a continuum of instructional methods showing
dependency on teacher or learner. Explain what is taking place in your
diagram.

b) Compare and contrast the two teaching strategies on one hand as against the
Inductive and Deductive approaches on the other hand. Illustrate your answer
with the most appropriate examples. [20marks]

Q4. a) i) Considering non-verbal communication in the classroom, would you say
it is necessary? Support your views with evidence that shows that you
know exactly how it works to the teacher’s advantage and disadvantage.

ii) When the teacher combines both verbal and non-verbal communication,
what is his expected behaviour in the classroom that may enhance
communication?

b) i) In which ways can a teacher make the writing (Chalk) Board an
effective teaching aid.
ii) Make a simple drawing of a Writing Board Plan.

c) What are Semantic Markers? How effectively may they be used by a teacher in
the classroom?

Q5.a)i) What is the meaning of Measurement?
ii) List and explain the types of tests that you know; your explanation should be in terms of how they are utilized in a successful Teaching/Learning process.

b) Say why there is need to measure, if at all there is.

c) Name all the classroom tests, (i.e. teacher-made tests) that you know. Explain.
Analyse in which manner each may be put into good use in the Teaching/Learning process. [20marks]
