1. (a) Explain what you understand by the following in relation to Music teaching. In
what ways does each influence the learning of Music.
i) Distributed effort
ii) A musical ear
iii) Concrete to abstract (12 marks)

(b) Rewrite each of the following clusters of sub-topics in a progressive
order in which you would introduce them to your music class.
(i) Time signature, rests, syncopation, Duration of notes,
Bar lines, Meter, Accents, Pulse. (05 marks)
(ii) Triads, Key Signature, Major Scale, Tone and Semitone Interval. (05 marks)

(c) In each case below, formulate one examination question for the
Form III music class using content of your choice that will require
the following ability levels.

2. Choose two of the following concepts and show how each influences the
skill of performing.

iii) Sight reading (15 marks)

3. In what three ways does the teacher’s approach in his/her first music lesson
influence the rapport with his/her students. (15 marks)

4. Identify two merits and two shortfalls in using each of the following for music
assessment.

ii) Stage performance
iv) A project (15 marks)

5. Outline two aspects in each case through which the music teacher can develop
students musicianship using the following:
i) Inter-house Music Festival
ii) Singing during School Assembly (15 marks)
