INSTRUCTIONS:
This paper is divided into three sections A, B and C.
Answer three questions, one from each section.
SECTION A (24 Marks)
1. Outline and briefly elaborate on three major topic areas which, in your opinion,
should constitute a comparative education course in an institution of higher education.
2. Show how any one of the following has contributed to the development comparative education as a discipline:
(a) Learning in institutions of higher education
(b) International organisations/agencies
(c) Comparative education societies
3. Discuss the importance of studying comparative education in your country today.
Illustrate your answer with specific examples.
SECTION B (23Marks)
4. There are factors that have helped to shape systems of education to be what they are.
(a) Name any four factors.
(b) Show how any one of the factors you have named in (a) above has helped
to shape systems of education.
Illustrate your answer with specific examples.

5. Describe four main characteristics features in the structure of education in any one
country (other than Kenya) which you have studied.
6. There are aspects in systems of education in other countries that could be a source of reference in the development of school education in your country. Discuss this
statement with reference in the development of school education in your country.
Discuss this statement with reference to any of the foreign countries you have studied.
SECTION C (23 marks)
7. Discuss any one factor that has been the source of problems in systems of education at
any one of the following levels.
(a) Primary school education
(b) Secondary school education
8. Discuss any two factors that have necessitated the expansion of early childhood education in your country. Illustrate your answer with specific examples.
9. Discuss the impact of cost-sharing on the quality of higher education in Africa today.
