SECTION A: Answer ALL questions in this section (6 marks each)
1. Citing a relevant example for each, briefly describe three uses of music in an early childhood class.
2. Define the following musical terms:
(i) Legatto (ii) song (iii) timbre (iv) tessitura (v) form (vi) diminuendo

4. Describe how you could use a Kayamba to promote 4 – year olds’ listening ability.
5. Describe four aspects that you could consider when assessing children’s singing ability.

7. Discuss the theory of Zoltan Kodally and compare and contrast it with music teaching in Kenyan early childhood programmes. (20 marks)
8. (a) Complete the song, “Gino maber …” (2 marks)
(b) Prepare an elaborate lesson plan that you could use to teach the song in “a” above to a class of twenty 4-year olds. (18 marks)
9. (a) Describe the value of drama in child development. (5 marks)
(b) Write a short story that you could use for dramatizations in a class of twenty 5- year olds and give five reasons why you think it is appropriate. (15 marks)
