CIRCUIT THEORY
QUESTION ONE
1. Two storage batteries, A and B, are connected in parallel for charging from a d.c source having an open-circuit voltage of 14 V and an internal resistance of 0.15 ohm. The open-circuit voltage of A is 11 V and that of B is 11.5 V; the internal resistances are 0.06 ohm and 0.05 ohm respectively. Calculate the initial charging currents.
What precautions are necessary when charging batteries in parallel?
2. A certain generator has an open-circuit voltage of 12 V and an internal resistance of 40 ohm. Calculate:
a. The load resistance for maximum power transfer
b. The corresponding values of the terminal voltage and of the power supplied to the load
3. A battery having and e.m.f of 105 V and an internal resistance of 1 ohm is connected in parallel with a d.c generator of e.m.f 110 V and an internal resistance of 0.5 ohm to supply a load having a resistance of 8 ohms.
Calculate
a. The currents in the battery, the generator and the load
b. The potential difference across the load.
