a) A great number of organizations today are investing enormous resources in Training and
Development of employees. Explain the reasons for this trend. ( 8mks)
b) Distinguish between Induction, training and Development. (4mks)
c) Effective Human resource Planning require proper Job Analysis. Clearly explain what is
meant by Job Analysis and the importance of Hob Analysis to the process of Human
Resource Planning. (5mks)
d) Your organization has just settled a legal dispute with someone who was turned down
during a recruitment exercise. The problem was with the accuracy of the Job description
and Job Specification. Write an entry for your personnel manual for what they should
both contain. (6mks)
e) “The recruitment and selection of an organization’s workface plays (French and
Rumbles, in Rayner and Adams-Smith, Managing and Leading People, CIPD 2005).
Differentiate between recruitment and selection and comment on the direct source of
recruitment. ( 7mks)

a) According to Woodruffe (2006), non-financial indicators are important motivators of
employee performance. Discuss the non-financial elements an organization can use in its
compensations program. (8 mks)
b) Patrick had been a valuable employee in the organization and the company was proud of
him until the death of his wife, which happened under unclear circumstances. After the
incident, Patrick has never been the same again. Initial observation revealed that he was
suffering from stress and required counseling.
(i) Explain the reasons organizations should be involved in employee
counseling. (4 mks)
(ii) Discuss the Safety and health programmes that organizations use to manage the
welfare of the employees. (8mks)

Industrial Relations between labour and management. Sound Industrial Relations means
absence of Industrial Disputes. Clearly examine the significance of

b) “Human Resource Management is a staff function but a line responsibility”. Comment on
this statement. (6mks)
c) “Information communication technology is greatly shaping Human Resource
Management”. With the use of relevant examples, examine Information Technology as
an emerging issue in Human Resource Management. (6mks)
