QUESTION ONE (COMPULSORY QUESTION - 30 Marks)
All managers irrespective of their line management responsibilities will be expected to
perform some human resource management functions so as to help the employees under
them to employ their fullest potential for the purpose of achieving the organization
objectives. Based on this understanding answer the following questions.
i. Discuss the factors responsible for the rising interest of HRM (8 Marks)
ii. Explain the impact of human resource management in an organization (8 Marks)
iii. Sometimes organizations are in a dilemma on whether to have human resources
policies written or remain unwritten. What is your take on this as a manager?

iv. Explain with specific examples why training may not solve all performance
problems in an organization (6 Marks)

obtains and retains the right workforce endowed with the appropriate qualities, skills,
knowledge & potential for future training. In light of this
i. Discuss the main considerations for an effective recruitment effort (10 Marks)
ii. Explain the components of an employee retention strategy (10 Marks)
QUESTION THREE (20 Marks)
You have been asked to head a team of line managers in your organization to look into the
reasons why there has been an unprecedented high turn over of high performing workers in
the organization. As a team you have agreed to study the exit interviews over the period that
turn over has been significantly high. One of the key complaints recorded in the exit
interview forms was a high level of accidents in the workplace.
i. what are the main reasons that can occasion high turn over in an organization

ii. what suggestions would your team make to address the current problem noticed
in the exit interview forms (12 marks)
