SECTION 1: Compulsory
1. (a) With the use of a diagram, explain the five steps a classroom teacher is supposed
to follow when preparing for the lesson. (10 marks).
(b) Why is research important in the teaching of geography in schools? (5 marks)
(c) List at least five problems you are likely to encounter when teaching Geography
and offer possible solutions to each of the problems. (10 marks)
(d) Identify at least three categories of resources used in teaching of Geography and
give two examples of each resource. (5 marks)

2. (a) Explain in detail what you understand by this statement that “Geography is a
mother of all disciplines taught in schools”? (10 marks)
(b) Discuss in detail the functions and values of teaching Geography in schools.
(10 marks)



3. (a) Argue for or against the use of heuristic approach to teaching in schools.
(10 marks)
(b) In your opinion and by supporting your arguments how will e-learning influence
the teaching of geography. (10 marks)

4. (a) Pick a topic of your choice and make a schemes of work for one week and then
pick a lesson and prepare a lesson plan for a lecture. (10 marks)
(b) What are the advantages and disadvantages of using the SOW lesson plan and
record of work (ROW). (10 marks)

5. (a) Why do you think it is necessary to assess learning (5 marks)
(b) Briefly discuss what you understand by summative, subjective, formative and
objective assessment. (15 marks)
