Question 1 is compulsory (30 marks) and answer any other TWO questions.
1. a). Why is Geography taught in secondary schools? (5 marks)
b). During our class discussion, we defined geography as “a mother of all disciplines” taught in schools. How can you explain this for a layman to understand that Geography is indeed an important subject? (10 marks)
c). Discuss briefly the 5 steps a classroom teacher needs to follow when preparing for a lesson. (10 marks)
d). List with relevant examples, the problems a Geography teacher is likely to encounter when teaching the subject. (5 marks)
2. Teaching Geography is as sweet as enjoying a lunch-meal at the Hilton Hotel. Based on our class discussions, explain this statement and give relevant examples to support the assertion. (20 marks)
3. a). Briefly explain how you can use a guest speaker as a resource to teach a named Geography topic. (5 marks)
b). Discuss with relevant examples, how the use of Information Technology (IT) can improve the teaching of Geography. (10 marks)
c). What factors would you consider when preparing a scheme of work and a lesson plan? How do these factors relate to those considered when preparing a syllabus? (5 marks)
4. a). What do you understand by the following terms?

ii. Objective assessment
iii. Formative evaluation
iv. Summative evaluation (8 marks)
b). Discuss the merits of Essay and the demerits of objective type of examination.

5. a). What do you understand by the term Research as used in Geography? (2 marks)
b). What role does research play in the teaching of Geography in schools? (8 marks)
c). Pick a relevant issue in Geography and discuss the steps you are expected to take in each of the 5 chapters. (10 marks)
