INSTRUCTIONS:
Answer question ONE and any TWO questions, a total of three questions.
Compulsory Question 1.
1. a). During our class discussions, we defined geography as “a mother” of all disciplines taught in schools. Build arguments for and against this statement. (10 marks)
b). Give reasons for and against the teaching and learning of geography in schools today.
(10 marks)
c). Identify two basic strategies used in the teaching and learning of geography in schools. Then, give a detailed account of how a geography teacher can be successful in his teaching given the several methods of teaching of teaching espoused in these strategies. (10 marks)

2. a). During our class discussions, the lecturer argued that the teaching of geography is like enjoying a meal at the Hilton Hotel. Discuss this assertion. (10 marks)
b). Explain in details the five steps a geography teacher is expected to follow in the classroom in order to be effective in his/her teaching. (10 marks)
3. a). Identify three categories of resources used in the teaching of geography and give at least three examples of each. (3 marks)
b). Why is it necessary for the teacher to use diverse categories of resources when teaching geography in the classroom? (7 marks)
c). What are the likely problems a classroom teacher experiences when teaching his given discipline at school? Give possible solutions to these problems. (10 marks)
4. a). The syllabus is a commonly regarded as a professional bible and yet most teachers have no access to it. Why do you think it is necessary to use a syllabus and why do you think it is structured in the form it exists today? (10 marks)
b). Pick a topic of your choice from the syllabus and prepare schemes of work for 1 week. Provide all necessary details and show how the schemes of work, the syllabus and lesson plan complement each other. (10 marks)
5. a). Briefly explain what you understand by the following terminologies as used in assessment:
i. Subjective
ii. Objective
iii. Formative
iv. Summative (8 marks)

b). What do you understand by the term research and how can research influence the teaching and learning of geography in schools. (12 marks)
