INSTRUCTIONS
1. Do not write anything on this question paper.
2. Answer question ONE and any THREE from the remaining questions.


SECTION A

1. i. Explain the difference between tacit knowledge and explicit knowledge. (2 marks)


ii. Briefly explain what you understand by the phrase "knowledge capture" (2 marks)


iii. Outline five indicators of expertise that would make a suitably knowledgeable

individual to be regarded as an expert. (5 marks)


iv. Supposing you have been assigned a job of extracting knowledge from an expert

on behalf of a renowned organization, how would you prepare for,

execute and review that task by employing the interview technique? (8 marks)


v. With suitable justifications, suggest some emerging aspects of information

and communication technologies (ICTs) that you would consider employing in order to

help you to effectively accomplish the task in an organized manner. (5 marks)


vi. Explain four advantages and four disadvantages of using interview

as a knowledge capture tool. (8 marks)


SECTION B

2. i. Use suitable examples to explain and distinguish between the terms data,

information, knowledge and wisdom. (4 marks)


ii. Depict the progressive evolution of knowledge from its most fundamental

form to its most complex form using the continuum of understanding. (3 marks)

iii. Write short notes on the concepts 'classification', metadata and ontology,

with respect to the organization of knowledge. (3 marks)




3. i. During an apprenticeship, tacit knowledge may be transfered from an

expert to a novice using the paradigm "doing is better than talking".

Demonstrate the effectiveness of this philosophy using the cone of human learning. (3 marks)


ii. Explain what is meant by indigenous knowledge and give four examples of how such

knowledge can be used to gain advantage of the environment. (5 marks)


iii. Give an account of the organization and dissemination of indigenous knowledge within

the traditional african setting. (2 marks)


4. i. Explain the meaning of knowledge transfer and mention any four prerequisites for the transfer

of knowledge to occur. (5 marks)


ii. From your understanding of the internet, intranet, and extranet, explain how knowledge is

transferred both within and outside the precincts of organizations using the mentioned technologies.

Highlight any precautions that should be considered when using such technologies. (5 marks)


5.i. Identify any six types of knowledge workers in the current society. (3 marks)


ii. Outline any eight roles that knowledge workers fulfil to the

benefit of contemporary organizations (4 marks)

iii. Highlight any three major contrasts between library of congress classification(LCC) scheme

and the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) Scheme in the organization of knowledge in

libraries and information centers. (5 marks)
