Even though Natella Abashwilli was the biological mother of baby Michael, she did not have the motherly instincts as compared to Grusha. Grusha took care of baby Michael as though she was the real mother.During that particular time she was fleeing, all she could remember was her clothes at the expense of the baby and at last she left the baby behind only to remember her when she thought of her late husbands wealth.

Grusha made many sacrifices to baby Michael, from buying milk at an exorbitant price and it actually did cost her all the money she had saved from her salary. She crossed the rotten bridge in order to safe baby Michael from the iron shirts.

When Grusha together with baby Michael arrived at her brothers house,we learn from the singer that Aniko, her brothers wife received her coldly and demanded to know whether the child had a father. She sacrificed her love for Simon Shavava for Michael's
case.

During the court case,Grusha's motherly instincts did not allow her to pull baby Michael out of the chalk Circle, she said all the things and sacrifices she had done and made to the baby and that she was unable to tear the child apart, thus the real moral challenge being motherly.
