- Availability of indigenous crops and animals e.g. barley, grapes, wheat and goats, sheep and
cattle
- Invention of farming tools e.g. hoes and ploughs
- Availability of water for irrigation

- Existence of transport systems in the form of wheels, canoes e.t.c.
- Availability of slave labour
- Settlement of people in Sumerian from Iranian plateau who had the knowledge of agriculture
- Political stability enabled people to practice agriculture

Reasons for domestication of crops and animals.
1.Climate change caused animals to migrate far away leading to lack of food.
2.Increase in mans population which required more food form animals.
3.Man and other wild animals competed for the same food leading to decrease in the animals man could rely on.
4.Over-hunting by man depleted stocks of animal he could rely on for food.
5.Natural disasters like forest fires and floods killed many animals making the survivors to migrate far away thus leading to scarcity of land..
6.Hunting and gathering had become insecure and tedious as man could come back empty handed.
7.Hunting as well as gathering would sometimes be hindered by unfavourable weather conditions like snow and rain.
8.Animals were used for transport and security.
9.Animals also provided cloths through hide and skins.
