John cycle for 3.5 hours to chaka trading centre, 40 km away from his home. He took a matatu to a town 200 km moving at the speed of 60km/ h and back to chaka. He finally cycled home at an average speed 10km/ h. find the average speed for the whole journey.

Speed = total distance /total time
Total distance = 40 + 200 x 2 +40
= 480km
Time =distance / speed
Time = 3.5 + 400/60 +40/10
= 14hrs 10 mins
Average speed = 480 /(85/6)
= 33.88 km/h
