The Whangara people carry all of their activities in complete sacredness.They consider most of their activities sacred.This range from their myths to simple day to day activities such as fishing.
The origin of the Whangara is surrounded in sacredness.The community believes that it came from the sacred ancestor Kahutia TeRangi who came to their current residence-New Zealand riding the sacred whale.This activity has dictated the behavior of this community over years.For instance the community panics when the desperate bull whale arrives one day wishing to die at the sea d shore.There is also a carve image of him on top of the community's meeting place.
The birth cord of a child,more so the first born is sacred.The birth must be followed by a saCred ceremony.The birth cord of such a child should be brought back to Whangara and be buried in the village. Nani flowers insists and buries Kahu's birth code
in Whangara in front of KahutiaTeRangi's image.
The passing of communities teachings are considered sacred.Only boys are allowed to attend such meetings.For instance,when Koro Apirana organizes meetings to teAch young boys to take on leadership.He does not allow Kahu to even come near.
The chieftainship is also held sacred.The current community leader passes on the to the eldest son who is expected to do exactly the same when his time is up.
In conclusion,the community carries all its activities in utter sacredness.
